Setting up Tidesy requires a one-time WiFi connection. Here is how that works in plain English.
When you first plug in your Tidesy, it does not know anything about your home WiFi. It does not know your network name or your password. So before it can get online and show tides, you need to tell it how to connect.
Since Tidesy does not have a keyboard or an app, it uses a clever workaround: it creates its own small, temporary WiFi network called TidesySetup. You connect your phone to that network, and a setup page opens in your browser where you type in your home WiFi name and password. That is all there is to it.
Think of TidesySetup like a walkie-talkie. Your phone connects to it so it can talk to the Tidesy device directly. You use that connection to tell Tidesy your home WiFi name and password. Once Tidesy has that information, it shuts down the temporary network, connects to your real home WiFi, and starts showing tides. Your phone goes back to your home WiFi automatically.

Plug in Tidesy. It starts up and creates a WiFi network called TidesySetup. The password is shown on screen. |
2 |
On your phone, go to WiFi settings (the same place you normally pick your home WiFi). Tap TidesySetup and enter the password tide1234. |
3 |
Open a web browser (Safari, Chrome, etc.) and go to 192.168.4.1. A setup wizard appears — this page is coming from the Tidesy device, not from the internet. |
4 |
Type in your home WiFi name and password. This is the same password you use for your phone and laptop. Tidesy tests the connection. |
5 |
Pick your tide stations (up to 3) and hit save. |

Done. Tidesy restarts, connects to your home WiFi, and starts showing live tides. The TidesySetup network disappears. Your phone reconnects to your home WiFi automatically. |
“No internet” warning? That is normal. TidesySetup only connects your phone to the device — not to the internet. If your phone asks whether to stay connected, tap Yes or Stay Connected.
Wrong password? No problem. Tidesy will bring TidesySetup back so you can try again.
Only once. You only do this the first time. After that, Tidesy remembers your WiFi and connects automatically every time you plug it in.
Changed your WiFi? If Tidesy can’t find its saved network, it creates the TidesySetup hotspot again so you can enter the new info.
